See, what both you and Rachel are talking about above -- the thing where Jack handles Renee differently than he does other people -- that's what I've seen from the very first ep, the thing that pops my can of squee right open (Wow that sounds really wrong now that I look at it typed out. Oh well). I love layered characters on television (all you know -- two of them?), and the fact that Captain Instant Decision Jack *still* seems not quite sure what to do with Renee both gives me a happy and makes me feel more like he's a real person.
I'm gonna go feel sorry for Larry more now;) Oh and plus you said "touchstone," which has me kaboom in the middle of a Mulder/Scully moment.
