Woe
I haven't seen 24 yet, but I know what's coming and writers, I hate you.
ETA: Ok it's now later. If you don't watch the show, skip this entry, cuz it's all 24 related.
Before watching show:
Why'd you have to go and kill Michelle off, huh? Damnit, I hate you. Why couldn't they just be happy? Why'd you have to go and sink my ship? Greek tragedy with guns, my ass. It's just shock value, and you know it.
I hate you.
More on this later.

After watching show:
Siiiiiigh. Seriously, was that really necessary? I was okay with Palmer dying because it's a good way to jumpstart the political and personal. His storyline had run its course with him out of office so the only reason we should see him is if he gets killed because of the attention it would bring to Jack, Tony, Michelle, Mike, etc while at the same time heighten the panic nationally. And hell there have been so many attempts on his life I guess, thrid time's the charm, right? Kiefer's reaction to seeing the covered body of David Palmer was spot on. Aww, poor Jack. The standoff with Wayne Palmer was excellent as well. Good show by DB Woodside.
But with Michelle's death it was like overkill. I'm so incredibly depressed that they killed of Michelle if only because they also showed us a glimpse of how well they were doing (re-married and working! yay!) After all they went through in the prior seasons, they could have just left the characters alone and happy. Sniff, sniff. As if Tony and Jack really needed to have one more thing in common. Guy can't catch a break.
To make matters worse, they gave us this awesome scene that showed why they work as a couple. They're still adults about it, Michelle still kisses him on the cheek even when they are fighting- and really they are only fighting because they're good people and kickass agents and they are trying to decide how to help. Michelle's line about the current CTU not having their experience? *snerk* I'm sure both she and Tony both felt like they wanted to help, but I think Michelle was probably recalling all the times they were scrambling around last season. Heehee. But awwwww, the determination to help, ability to convince Tony to do the right thing, the return of the huge Lord of the Rings style wedding rings, the kiss on the cheek? Joel Surnow and Howard Gordon, I hate you. Why did you have to go and kill the one female character who was always kickass and was able to retain her spine throughout her entire run despite being in a serious relationship???? Do you know how rare that is? GAH. Ah well, at least Reiko got her wish for a cool death. Flamey tragic death by car explosion to create revenge seeking Tony is not a losery way to go. Much better than the woe-is-me suicide in the car they had originally planned for her last year.
And on a shallow note: damnit, I don't get my wowawesomehot tony/michelle makeout sessions in dark hallways this year. Sniff, or ever again.
Otherwise, I'm intrigued as to where they are going to take this season. It feels personal again, as close to S1 as possible:
1 Renegade, pissed off, don'tmesswiththepeopleIlove!Jack "motivated" Jack? Check. Wow, that took like .5 seconds for him to take out the people chasing Chloe. Leaving that guy without an ambulance after he spilled the beans? That's cold, man. Well, he didn't "give his word" so, oh well. Plus, the return of the Aviator Glasses of Awesomeness. Whoohoo!
2. Interconnected plotlines? Check. I'm hoping that Derek and his mom will take the route of Andrew from last season and that is- show up, stir up angst and hard choices for Jack to make and then disappear when they aren't important anymore. Plus, I'm digging The First Lady's Cassandra-esque storyline.
3. Well-meaning but trouble magnet teenager that Jack cares about? Check. Dude, Derek is so the male Kim.
4. Love interest for Jack? Check. Glad to see that the shock of Jack being alive still doesn't deter her from defending him. She (and Kim if she shows up this season) better give him hell for leaving the way he did though. Should be interesting when Diane shows up though, since she was definitely crushing hard.
5. Shady, possibly mole CTU agents sleeping with main characters- check. Nice to see that Chloe's personality stays in place despite sleeping with someone and her discovering the joys of makeup.
6. The reveal of an actual mole early on? Check.
7. Cubbie and Soul Patch? Check. Thoughts as to how long it will take Tony to kick ass again? Considering he was back running CTU in S3 four hours after being shot (in!the!neck!), I'm sure his superpower healing will have him back on his feet in no time.
8. Evil Eastern Europeans as villians? Check.
9. Shock value violence and murders to motivate characers and advance plot? Check. See above rant.
10. The good guys use Macs, questionable/evil guys use PCs theory still intact? Check. Palmer? Mac. Spencer? Compaq. Uh oh.
Bring on Season 5.

The ep was so heartwrenching and crazy in so many ways... Let's just say that I have no words to describe it.

2) jack's reaction to palmer's body was heart-wrenching. And also good? mike's reaction to it. the fact that he was utterly speechless on the phone was spectacular.
3) they were gonna kill off michelle in the car last season??? i was praying that they wouldn't... it would be very romeo&juliet and be quite annoying. at least she DID have that fiery death.
4) please don't tell me that tony's going to be confined to a bed all season... that's depressing.
5) booo... 24 was also late in starting because of football...
6) just seeing jack holding a gun was such a huge relief... I missed that.
7) gah! i called the kid being a male kim too! now we just have to get him arrested for murder...
can't wait for tonight's eps!

2) Novick's reaction was awesome, but the one I really want to see? Aaron Pierce.
3) Yea, I was really pissed when I heard that they were thinking about going in that direction last year, and was pleased they decided not to.
4) Please. He's a regular. This means he's going to be kicking ass and taking names in...I'd give it 6 episodes, tops. You know he's gonna at least wake up by Hour 5. Man is like Wolverine.
5)Uh, YEA. I missed the last 10 mins on the DVR and had to look up online to see what happened.
6) Hell yeah! Loved how he didn't waste the bullets to kill the first guy too, just a whip and slash of the knife.
7) well, on a scale of 1-10 on the Angsty Trouble Teen Scale, 1 being Poor!Dead!Debbie and 10 being Behroooooooz, I guess Derek is an 7 so far.
Dude, I'm going to be so spoiled for next week though when we only have one episode per week. I already want all 22 episodes as is.

And Tony better get miraculously better... but after something like that, how can you feasibly get up in less than 24 hours?? I mean, they said he had a head trauma! (then again, he DID get shot in the neck...) We shall see. Maybe he DOES have a mutant healing factor that we don't know about... or maybe he is drinking something "special" in that cubbies mug of his...
