Chromatic Casting: Star Wars

Okay fine. I bite. Here's my version of Star Wars:

Anakin Skywalker- Jaden Smith / Lee Thompson Young

Padme Amidala - Keke Palmer / Angel Coulby

Qui-Gon Jinn - Colin Salmon

Shmi Skywalker- Gina Torres

Palpatine - Ben Kingsley

Mace Windu - Samuel L. Jackson (Like I'm gonna mess with that one)

Obi Wan Kenobi- Daniel Henney / Ken Watanabe (Apparently when he went into hiding, he changed from Korean to Japanese. He's stealthy like that.)

Luke Skywalker- Tristan Wilds

Princess Leia Organa- Lenora Crichlow

Han Solo- John Cho

Lando Calrissan- Sendhil Ramamurthy

Feel free to make alternate suggestions.

I approve of this casting! While we recast Amidala with Angel Coulby (♥), can we also rewrite her role so that she *doesn't* die of heartbreak in RoTS? *g*

RotS violates its own canon because Leia specifically says that she remembers her biological mother, so I vote YES.

Plus, I never really bought the chemistry between Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman anyway because Hayden can't act. Lee would do such a better job.

*snorffles* Yeah that takes some skill!

You just proved my theory on me correct, in that I'm entirely fine with all of this. I LOVE Jaden Smith as little Anakin and Ben Kingsley as Palpatine. Good times! I really think your version would have MUCH better acting. And just as much pretty. So what's not to love?

[identity profile] dealan311.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It would totally have better acting. I also added in a young Padme, because I never understood why Lucas put Natalie Portman in all three, when Padme was only supposed to be 14. It definitely made it hard to ship them as a couple seeing her interact with a 10 year old.

Well this is probably apostasy to lots of people, but I loathe Natalie Portman period. So you could recast that role with Kermit and I'd still be happier.

Won't lie. I'm starting to ship Lee's Anakin and Angel's Padme *hard* in my head.

Well, after Monday, I may need to learn this skill of "shipping in my head," so perhaps you can offer helpful lessons:)

[identity profile] dealan311.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe. Right now I'm just picturing how different the line readings would be coming out of their mouths and what looks they'd be shooting each other. Both Lee and Angel have really expressive eyes, and the shipping comes from me imagining them handling the angst and the fluff so much better than Natalie and Hayden did.

Nice job! I especially love Sendhil as Lando, and Ken Watanabe as older Obi-Wan. Although if you wanted to keep Obi-Wan Japanese, might I humbly suggest the beautiful Takeshi Kaneshiro?

[identity profile] dealan311.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I was waffling between both, but Daniel Henney doesn't get enough love so I put him down instead. Takeshi seems to be a lot of people's go-to Asian guy (for good reason), so I thought I change it up a bit.

Oh I like your suggestions! I feel awful that I don't recognize all of the actors above, but they all look like'd rock the Star Wars and with the pretty, yes.

I agree with all of the above except I have to admit I'm not a huge John Cho fan.

Jaden rocked Pursuit of Happiness and he just got casted as the Karate Kid. (He's not the one I really object to in the film. More like Jackie Chan replacing Mr. Miyagi.) Lee Thompson Young was in the Disney show, the Famous Jett Jackson, when he was younger (about a movie star moving back home and just trying to be normal). He also was in Flash Forward and given his story arc in that series, I could see him bringing an edge to the role that Hayden didn't have- thus transforming whiny to just young and foolish.

Keke Palmer was in Akeehla and the Bee. Angel's been in a handful of British stuff, but she's most famous for her role as the future Queen Guinevere on the BBC's Merlin. Her Gwen is amazing when you consider how little she is given to work with.

Colon Salmon is probably most famous for his role in Bond films, but he's also been in Dr. Who as well as Ladies No.1 Detective Agency, which is how I know him.

Daniel Henney: Mostly Korean soap operas (where he's a HUGE star) but in the US he was Agent Zero in the Wolverine movie and Dr Lee in the CBS show, Three Rivers. I casted him because of his voice, because it oozes authority AND sexy (a hard combination to find). Ken Watanabe was most famous in the US for Memoirs of a Geisha and Last Samurai.

Tristan Wilds brought on some AMAZING work as a young actor in the Wire. Really gritty stuff there. But he's currently in the new 90210 so he could pull off Luke's innocence, I think.

Lenora Crichlow plays Annie on the BBC's Being Human, a show about a werewolf, a vampire and ghost all sharing an apartment. She plays the ghost. She's just cheeky enough to play Leia, but she's got fire too.

That should cover most of the obscure ones. I'm gonna assume you've seen everyone else, yes?

John Cho is perfect for Han Solo. He'd be brilliant!

I know this is months later, but I was reminded about the whole meme and found my way here just today. And OMFG, this casting is perfect. PERFECT! From now on, when I read the books or watch the movies/tv shows, I'm picturing this casting. You rock so hard!
