This is a Fringe post.
So did I mention that I am totally loving Fringe right now? It's interesting, freaky yet beautifully shot and I don't mind that it's a slow burn because it's totally in the vein of the X-Files in that you have mythology arc eps as well as monster of the week eps. I know at times it seems like it's ripping off the X-Files every other week, but that doesn't really bother me because the X-Files ripped off a lot of things in folklore, literature and staples in the horror genre for its MotW eps too. Besides which, the myth arcs are totally different, and the core relationships in this show are the warped parent-child relationships Walter has with Peter and Olivia.
I also appreciate that:
1) Olivia wears sensible shoes and awesome, work appropriate clothes, make-up and hairstyles.
2) The show gives a lot of time to developing non-romantic relationships; fully realized friendships, family, and work relationships abound in this show.
3) Fringe is like the reverse of Lost in that the audience has the answers to a lot of the BIG secrets and is waiting for the characters to catch up. None of this waiting for "answers will be revealed" crap. It's more like, "watch how the characters freak out when the ticking time bomb goes off and the shit hit the fan." It's a refreshing change from the twists of the week competition that seems to be infecting a lot of shows. (There are, of course, still some questions, but it's nice to be ahead of the characters once in a while.)
So in conclusion: Fringe. If you like getting quietly freaked out, you should watch it. Jump in this week for the repeat of the episode, "August." It's a great episode, and it has one of my favorite lines ever.

Also, I wound up making a fanvid for Olivia. Originally it was supposed to be a "recontextualizing S7 Renee in light of S8" vid, but the song works better for Fringe and Olivia, so now it's a "trippy dreaming Olivia" vid instead. Link to video and notes can be found here: http://dealanexmachina.livejournal.com/5699.html

Yes to Olivia and her sensible shoes and short nails. Anna Torv is my official girl crush.
I wanna see more of the alt-verse. Fringe is one of the few shows that can use the image of the WTC in a respectful, non-sensationalist manner.
You already have my comments on your fanvid, so I'll just say great job. What kind of software do you use for editing?

Mmmm. Yeah. I wanna know more about the alt-verse, but equally compelling is the shit that's gonna hit the fan when everyone finds out about Peter. Especially Peter's reaction. April can't get here fast enough.
Thanks. Final Cut Pro.

Sadly, Lost is boring me this season. At least that's a show that knows when to end.

At least there is that. It will be interesting to go back and watch it from the beginning to see how much opinion changes when you mainline it and there's not enough time to theorize.

There was a very funny "Interview" with good by Vanity Fair a few years back, where God talks to the interviewer:
God: I love all my children equally. But aesthetically I'm going with Asians.
God: Mars1 I don't like to talk about Mars. Next question?

I might have to catch up on Fringe over the summer, if I'm anywhere near done Buffy and Angel by then.
