NBC, I need you to be Awesome. Can you be AWESOME?
I've been insanely quiet about last night's eps, all things considered. I think it's because my brain broke. I still need a day before I can post about 24, but for now, let's focus on the happiness that is Chuck. Because I can't even pick what my favorite part is about this episode, guys. EVERYTHING is my favorite part. BEST.EPISODE.EVER.
1. Devon "Captain Awesome" Woodcomb- I love the reveal. Every bit of it. From him finding out about Chuck simply because Ellie was upset to taking Jeffster's clues to his confrontation with Casey. It's totally in character for Devon to try to protect his family, and I love love love that he managed to drop Casey using the bronzed Ronald Reagan statue. And the sweetest part about his reaction? The "I knew you were more than just a loser at the Buy More" statement. Because coming from anyone else, it might seem like a backhanded compliment, since it is partly true, but from Awesome, you know he really believes in Chuck because the faith he has in Chuck's ability to be more that he sees himself to be has been both consistently and heartwarmingly genuine since Day 1.
2. Casey. I love Adam Baldwin so freaking much. I love that Casey has been showing so many signs that he loves this team and trusts them, which is why he was SO hurt that Chuck and Sarah cut out on him. He was more hurt about not being included than the treason part, and Zachary Levi's delivery of "Casey, would you like to help us to rescue my father?" was PERFECT. I love that he covered for Sarah and that he finally admitted in his Casey way that he views Chuck as a friend. I heart John Casey so much.
3. And ELLIE. Oh poor Ellie, who is out of the loop and just wants her family together. Sarah Lancaster does hurt so well and her relationship with Chuck, how she can't, DOESN'T want to get married without Chuck at her side is just so...*happy sigh* And her and Chuck using the same words to get Awesome to focus? They are so siblings.
4. Even the Buy More plot was integrated well, since it got Sarah and Chuck out of holding. At times it can be superfluous and annoying, but you know what? I love the Buy More plotlines because they always bring the funny with the homages, this time the original Godfather, they have awesome continuity (the Ass Man from Chuck vs the Seduction), and they're just plain FUN. And I love that Morgan finally graduated and left the Buy More. If this show goes out this year, at least it's winding down all plotlines and letting the characters grow.
5. Which of course leads me to Chuck and Sarah. SERIOUSLY, how HOT was that? I love how they can make holding hands more sexy than any of the multiple fantasy sequences we've seen Sarah in, because this is real. And that's all that Chuck ever wanted from Sarah. That moment where he breaks away from kissing her and looks at her and smiles and she smiles back and he realizes that they're all in and that this is real? No covers, no aliases, just them? *LOVE* Everything about them, down to Sarah's last line about it being 100% real is just perfection.
Honestly, I don't know how I feel about the finale, knowing that they've resolved the Intersect thing. Granted that's not a perfect science and they can probably reverse as I can't picture Chuck the show working without the device of the Intersect, but it is interesting that the solution they have to made is to overwrite the images to cancel them out. That means they're still stored in Chuck's brain and he might still be able to access them if he tries hard enough. And they've really set the stage for him to come into his own as a full-fledged spy, so it could be pretty interesting to see how it all plays out.
This ep could have easily served as a series finale, it was THAT good and THAT satisfying. And honestly, it scares me that the writers say that if the show doesn't get return next season, next week's ep will turn into the least satisfying series finales ever. Which means cliffhanger, which means- SIGH. NBC, DO NOT SCREW THIS UP. You did so well by making these promos last season:
I just...Please. Do the right thing and renew this show. Chuck needs to survive and be on my screen every week next season.
