You know, I have a real love/hate relationship with Glee. If I look at it just as a show, and judge it as the social commentary/dark comedy satire that it started out to be, then I find it failing in so, SO many ways. Some stuff (usually the stuff centered on the kids, especially Kurt) they do really well. But Will's kind of a douche; the adults are all terrible, TERRIBLE teachers; a lot of the most recent episodes seem to be about building plots around the songs instead of the other way around; and there's only so much I can take when it takes itself too seriously and turns into an afternoon special. Also, as much as I love Sue and Brittany, they need to be careful not to overexpose them in the promos. Their lines are best left as a surprise instead of heard a billion and one times in the promos that we're sick of them by the time the show airs.

That said, I really do enjoy this show for the music. Case in point: Idina and Baby Idina Lea Michele singing I Dreamed a Dream is nothing short of amazing. I just...this is going to kill me when I see it in the context of the show. I just know it. But even on its own, it'll blow you away.

I also can't hate on this show because of the genuine appeal of the actors who play the kids. I do think that they are THE hardest working actors in Hollywood, when you consider:

1) the crazy media blitz they do (from Oprah to the White House to mall tours) in addition the regular entertainment media

2) the 4 city live tour wherein they perform their songs live. Which, btw, they are much better live than with that stupid autotune on the CD. Seriously, they need to lay off it, because you can actually hear their voices in the videos from tour and they are GOOD. (Also, Dianna and Naya killed it in Bad Romance. And props to Chris for dancing in those heels. I can't wait to see it in the context of the episode.)

3) filming the show itself. And you know, it's not a joke to shoot the show. I've heard tons of stuff from guest stars and crew about how this show is so much more like being a part of a Broadway show, and boy do I believe it now. I can't imagine how they're stay sane, going from studio recordings sessions to dance practice to filming the performances AND doing the acting scenes.

Between the tour and all this, I worry about the kids in the long term, but so far it looks like they're having fun. The videos they post make me miss my tech theater and PSBC performance days:
