withherhands: (24 - Jack and Renee are listening)

1) *nodnod* It is sort of a transitiony ep, and a good one at that. Interesting the parallels you give it to Season 3, though when I think of game-changing eps that season I tend to think of a little later when they introduce the Saunders plotline as that time the first arc seemed to come to a dead stop and a new one started up. Though that might be because I was never terribly won over by the Mexico plotline (and didn't really like the "it was a setup all along!" as I felt there were certain elements that wouldn't make sense if stuff hadn't gone wrong) and at the time felt like the show really hit its stride with the Saunders part. Also because there was a huge gap over Christmas with the Mexico plot and so at the time it was kind of like, "okay, so what happened before this again?"

2) OMG I love Taylor. I LOVE that they've made her with gigantic balls but she's still somewhat cautious and intelligent about what she's doing, not just charging ahead because that's what she's going to do, dammit. It'd be very easy to characterize someone very forceful and blunt as someone who's also kind of a bull-in-a-china-shop/brute-force-and-ignorance kind of person and she's not.

3) OH YEAH BITCHES, PIERCE IN THE HIZZOUSE. I was spoiled for the casting from reading an article somewhere (and I kind of shrieked when I saw it *g*) but I still went all mad flaily when I saw his name in the guest appearance credits and squealed so loudly when we saw him. I LOVE YOU, AARON.

4) I'm not sure how they're doing it exactly, but I love that this season while the characters reference earlier characters, it actually works. As opposed to being a bit like some past seasons where it seemed more like a cheap ploy by TPTB to get us invested in the characters quickly, as they'd killed off everyone else.

5) NO. CHLOE CANNOT DIE, DAMMIT. SHE HAS A KID. SHE'S THE PERFECT COMIC FOIL FOR JACK. NO.

I loved her interaction with her and Moss, and squealed so loudly at the mention of Chappelle. Though sometime I would die to see Renee actually mention it to/ask Jack about it, considering I've seen two recent interviews where Kiefer says that Jack still really hasn't forgiven himself for killing him and I would love to actually see him convey that onscreen.

And yeah, mentioning Teri was over the line. Hopefully Moss knows better than to mention that to Jack's face, considering he was watching Tony's interrogation. :D

6) OH MY GOD I LOVE JACK AND RENEE TOGETHER IN ANY CAPACITY. So much WORD to everything you said, and actually reading that I can finally articulate something that's been percolating in my brain for a while. What I really hope is that Renee's reactions kind of bring out more of that side that Jack has closed off and give him back something, more than she she starts heading down Jack's dark path. WHY I STILL HAVE ANY KIND OF HOPE WHEN IT COMES TO THESE CHARACTERS AFTER 6 SEASONS I DO NOT KNOW. But yeah, I want to see Jack get some of that humanity back, dammit (and I don't want Renee to die to do it)!

I also really, really, really, want to see Renee and Jack's ideas about what they should do diverge--and for Renee's idea to ACTUALLY WORK instead of just her resisting Jack's idea of what they have to do and then giving in. Jack's plans aren't always right--sometimes they succeed, sometimes they fail--so it's not that Jack's always right, it's more that his is always the only option, whether it succeeds or not. Even if it doesn't succeed, it was the only thing they could do, and I'd love to see that change. Especially if TPTB are trying to question whether Jack has done the right thing, it's still just kind of telling instead of showing as long as they show torture/doing crazy illegal shit is the *only option*.
