So did I mention that I am totally loving Fringe right now? It's interesting, freaky yet beautifully shot and I don't mind that it's a slow burn because it's totally in the vein of the X-Files in that you have mythology arc eps as well as monster of the week eps. I know at times it seems like it's ripping off the X-Files every other week, but that doesn't really bother me because the X-Files ripped off a lot of things in folklore, literature and staples in the horror genre for its MotW eps too. Besides which, the myth arcs are totally different, and the core relationships in this show are the warped parent-child relationships Walter has with Peter and Olivia.

I also appreciate that:

1) Olivia wears sensible shoes and awesome, work appropriate clothes, make-up and hairstyles.

2) The show gives a lot of time to developing non-romantic relationships; fully realized friendships, family, and work relationships abound in this show.

3) Fringe is like the reverse of Lost in that the audience has the answers to a lot of the BIG secrets and is waiting for the characters to catch up. None of this waiting for "answers will be revealed" crap. It's more like, "watch how the characters freak out when the ticking time bomb goes off and the shit hit the fan." It's a refreshing change from the twists of the week competition that seems to be infecting a lot of shows. (There are, of course, still some questions, but it's nice to be ahead of the characters once in a while.)

So in conclusion: Fringe. If you like getting quietly freaked out, you should watch it. Jump in this week for the repeat of the episode, "August." It's a great episode, and it has one of my favorite lines ever.
