Random thought: on Brothers and Sisters, Jon Glover, the Magnificent Bastard over on Smallville, is playing the boyfriend of Saul, played by Ron Rifkin, the Magnificent Bastard over on Alias. This? Amuses me to no end.

In Pride and Prejudice news: Pride & Prejudice: the Zombie Movie Version? Apparently someone got a parody published and now they're thinking of making it into a film:

"It quickly became obvious that Jane (Austen) had laid down the blueprint for a zombie novel," author Seth Grahame-Smith told Australia’s Herald Sun. ”Why else in the original should a regiment arrive on Lizzie Bennet's doorstep when they should have been off fighting Napoleon? It was to protect the family from an invasion of brain-eaters, obviously."

YOU GUYS. I can't even...You know, I thought it was a joke at first, but it's listed on Amazon and the movie reports are popping up in legitimate sources. It's like I can't decide if I want to cry or laugh, this is so ridiculous.

In 24 news:

Holy crap, this season is on fire. I looooooved this episode.

1. Renee, Renee, Renne. You *really* didn't know what you were getting yourself into when you crossed that line with Tanner, did you? You were just pissed because he was laughing at you and you wanted to prove that you could get the results. Oh man. She's totally in over her head. (Annie Wersching makes the most hilarious "Oh shit, what the hell am I doing?" faces.) I like that she didn't even do anything to the kid or the mom physically, but emotionally she knew she was terrorizing them and that got to her. This hour had Renee struggling for most of the episode, but at the same time, she still showed incredible compartmentalization skills with her acknowledgement that she's not okay, but she'll deal with it later. Props to whomever wrote the Tomorrow line. That was awesome. (Also, dude, I continue to be impressed by her single-shot kills. Those are not easy. Renee's conflicted a lot of the time, but when she commits to something, she REALLY commits, and when she's on, she's on fire.)

2. Also, I adored that scene in front of the Capitol building. Yeah, there are better places for them to meet that are more discreet, but the symbolism of them having that particular conversation about rules and laws in front of the building where laws are made was a REALLY nice touch. You had Jack and Larry doing the whole "Angel and Demon on each shoulder" and Renee struggling with it and not wanting to make that decision, but Jack still pressing to pick a damn side and act was just...GUH. The moral dilemmas like that are why I watch this show.

That exchange between Larry and Jack was just so.freaking.good too, because Jack's "Not today" wasn't a punctuation of badassery that it usually is. He seemed to have more of a sad resignation that that's the way the world is right now. Add in Larry's fear of Renee turning into Jack, plus Jack's insistence that Renee already crossed the line, and it all ties into the whole discussion Rachel and I had about this reoccuring the question of integrity in the 24-verse and how hard it is to get out of that world once you start on that path. I'm glad that Larry's there to serve as the counter-point to Jack.

3. Speaking of which, anyone else want to hand Larry the book, "He's Just Not Into You"? Poor guy. I mean, yeah Renee might have been scared of what Larry thought of her actions, but honestly, who doesn't take the opportunity to hug their crush? The "I'm sorry I made you think I was dead" clause is ALWAYS a freebie. I'm beginning to think that his feelings are totally one-sided. It sort of cracks me up that throughout the entire season, Renee and Larry always have the same conversation: "If you trust me, you'll help me do this." *bats eyes prettily* "Sigh. Fine. But next time, Renee...What do you need?" Larry is so Renee's bitch.

4. "With all due respect, Madame President, ask around." Damn straight. Of all the things to question about Jack, his patriotism and loyalty to the office of the President is NOT one of them. Hell, he was the one orchestrated the plan to get the guy corrupting that position out of office and into jail house arrest. Best line in the entire season so far, and that says a lot because there have been some GREAT lines this season.

5. Cherry Jones did a great job this episode. I'm really starting to warm up to President Taylor, almost as much as I loved David Palmer. She's not backing down, and she totally has balls of steel. Now if only the people around her weren't so wussy.

6. I love that 24 is featuring DC and all, but dude. No way they get from the White House to Andrew's Air Force Base in 10-15mins. Would it kill them to whip out a map or do a search on Googlemaps once in a while? Now I know how the LA people feel watching this show.

7. Since this is episode 8, I was expecting there to be a stopping point (I believe this is when they had to stop for the writers strike). And they did with a bang (totally got caught off guard when Henry got shot).

But I am wondering what they are going to do with the rest of the season. Now that Dubaku basically has no leverage anymore, I guess from here they're going to start going after the moles within their system. If the previews are to be believed (this is Fox, after all), we'll be finding out the FBI one, but there's still the President's cabinet to deal with and the issue of Jon Voight's character. (This is where 24: Redemption actually helps, because it gives the audience a foot up from the characters to know that he might be coming as a baddie, in case you didn't already hear from the media news.) I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of Dubaku because it's too good an opportunity to pass up for Dubaku to find out that the guy who killed his brother and the one who destroyed the CIP device and saved Henry Taylor are one in the same. I wonder if he'll end up teaming up with Jon Voight's character.

Or he might not. Either way, Dubaku really brought the action for the first act of this season, so if he is out of the game, I hope whomever's coming up next will continue to keep up with this level of intensity. As first acts of the season go, this 8-ep arc was right up there with S1.
