Before I launch into 24 talk- MAD girls, Ms Bush is retiring. If you want to give her messages, email the alumni people as they are compiling comments and whatnot to give her. She's awesome and totally deserves it, so even though the radio silence between me and MAD goes on from here to eternity on a normal basis, I still emailed some stuff in.

I'm like thisclose to going into Internet lockdown because I don't want to get spoiled for 24's finale on Monday. It's like they're everywhere since the S7 Finale and DVD party. (Which you should all check out the pictures of because they're so VERY cute). But seriously. Spoilers!Everywhere! And it's taking all my willpower not to click on people's LJs and links. Must.be.strong.
Of course that won't stop me from entertaining speculations about how it's all gonna end, especially with Tony. My list of possible reasons for Tony's perceived conversion to the dark side is still on the post-it on my desk, because as I mentioned in the previous post, we've heard from his own mouth a lot of reasons for his action:
1. Mercenary reasons: "Money's the only reason I have for doing anything any more."
Likelihood: Unlikely, although he looked really comfortable with those diamonds in 7x06.
2. Warped Patriotism ala Hodges: "The government killed Michelle... Charles Logan is a product of his environment."
Likelihood: Possible. I could see the Cabal playing on his anger and patriotism. It would still be somewhat in line with the Tony we knew to want to fix the kind of government that questions patriots like Jack who gave up everything for their country and sticks Tony in prison for trying to save his wife but virtually letting Logan off the hook for betraying the entire system.
3. Exposing the Cabal: "Don't break your own rules, Jack! You may save one man, but think about the thousands who could die in a biological attack!"
Likelihood: Highly improbable but this is also 24 so maaaaaaybe. The optimist in me wants to believe this, which might explain why he's been so quiet about it (assuming he knows Cara is listening). And given the entire Mexico thing in S3 and the aftermath of S5, it's not against type for him to work from within to expose the Evil Skype Session of Doom at all costs. This is, after all, the very reason why we accepted him back this season in the first place. However, the realist in me thinks that it's probably more likely to be...
4. Revenge: "The rules had changed. That there was no thing such as honor left. That we would have to take care of each other. Like brothers."
Likelihood: Most likely. Tony is first and foremost a character driven by his emotions. He's got a history of spiraling without a touchstone (hello S4) and I could easily see him being brainwashed by Emerson. He was too genuine in his sadness over killing him and I really do think that Emerson got to him, especially if he played on Tony's anger over Michelle's death which I've supplemented with Rachel's theory about Michelle being pregnant as part of my fanon.
Also, from a storytelling POV, it would continue the show's grand tradition of Jack and Tony always taking different paths. Jack chooses David Palmer over his family. Tony chooses Michelle (who actually was awesome enough to escape on her own) over capturing Saunders. Jack is more likely to sign up for a suicide mission, consumed with guilt and blaming himself unreasonably or not for Teri and Audrey (hi S6 and 7x13). Tony is much more likely to go for revenge, since unlike Jack, Tony holds no personal culpability for losing Michelle so his reaction would be to push the blame outward, versus Jack would probably turn inward.
So I could definitely see them going this route, especially since it's in keeping with the big themes of the season. If this season is all about The Story of the Life and Redemption of Jack Bauer, what with Renee being the Ghost of Christmas Past, then Tony is still the Ghost of Christmas Future, just more much bleak than we originally thought.
Of course I could be wrong. Again, this is 24 so it could be a totally different reason completely. I just hope they give us something that makes somewhat sense to account for Tony's actions. That's all I really want. I'm less worried about the Jack health thing because we know he's signed on for S8, so my main thing is just that Scooby Doo moment of explaining why.
Although Jack better not be kidnapped or some shit like that. None of this S5 crap. This season has been painful enough for Jack, which is ironic, since we all were talking earlier this season about how it was like his best day ever. I don't even care if Jack's health isn't 100%, I just want him safe at like West Arlington or somethingso Kim and Renee can angst together over waiting for him to recover. (Shoot, Shana, I'm turning into a full fledged shipper now.)
And actually, I would LOVE it if Kim actually got herself out of trouble and maybe even worked with Renee to get Jack back, since Mary Page Keller and Hey It's That Guy are the most direct leads to Cara, Tony and the Evil Skype Session of Doom. That would be kind of awesome. The women this year are totally kicking butt on 24, so that would be in keeping with THAT theme too.

Although won't lie. I don't watch it in real time. I wait about 15 mins before jumping in so that I can fast forward on the DVR through the commercials. I'm such a child of the Instant Gratification Generation. Hence my love for TPTB for deciding to release the S7 DVD next Tuesday so I can dive into the commentaries immediately.

See yeah I couldn't even do that. I'll sit through commercials (not that I have a DVR, but still) just to have it RIGHT NOW. Hee. I only pretend to be an adult. Nobody buys it.
